Richard Scott's very distinctive art style is characterized by a thick black line. The world he creates is mostly of white figures outlined in dark on a striking multi-coloured background. His figures are often compared to Julian Opie's female figures. “Art is the creative force that drives and inspires me, filling my working days with the joyful toil of bringing colour and line to life.”

Scott's media are varied: pencil, pastel, watercolour, acrylic, oil, lithography, etching, sculpture, new media and photography.

Richard Scott was born in Middlesbrough, UK in 1968, and has lived in Cape Town, South Africa since 2001. He is known for his unique approach to art under the term "Naive meets Pop Art", both in South Africa itself and internationally.

He graduated from Norkem Park High School in Kempton Park, Gauteng in 1986. Throughout his school years, Scott attended art classes, and worked as a technical illustrator and IT specialist. It was not until 2001 that he decided to become a full-time artist.

In 2004 he met Mark Atwood of Lithography Artist Press in Mpumalanga, South Africa, and in 2008 began studying screen printing at Keip Silk Screening in Johannesburg.

Richard Scott has had numerous group exhibitions under the label "Naive meets Pop" and his works are mainly sold outside South Africa. Art collectors in Europe own at least 75% of the 2,500 paintings that he has created in the past 10 years.
