Okuda San Miguel is a Spanish artist born in Santander, Spain in 1980. He now lives and works in Madrid. The artist graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Madrid’s Complutense University.

Okuda´s large-scale murals, street sculptures and other projects can be found in parks and squares in various cities around the world.

While Okuda dicovered the globe to paint walls, in 2009 the artist began to create contemporary art in the studio. His fine art works have been exhibited in art galleries globally, such as: India, Mali, Mozambique, United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, Peru, Mexico and many european countries.

Okuda is perhaps best known for his conversion of an abandoned Spanish church aptly named Kaos Temple, in Llanera, Spain. It is a fantastic and wholesome art work and has become a new icon of contemporary art. This brought the artist a lot of international recognition. More of his unique projects in the public space were realized in his birthtown Santander, Boston Seaport, Cantabria, Malaga, New York and many more.

With his unique signature he enriches the world of street art by far. Okuda´s art practice could be described as Pop Surrealism with a clear essence of street art virbrations. His colorful geometric patterns are juxtaposed to grey body shapes. His art works usually represent surreal and figurative motifs. The Spanish artist´s expressive murals and works of art raise questions about existentialism, the universe, the infinite, the meaning of life as well as many the contradictions in the world regarding freedom, capitalism. Okuda´s intention is to showcase also differences between modernity and the past, the ancient myths and traditions.

“My art reflects my love for the metamorphosis and multiculture. Playing with shape and form I highlight this juxtaposition within my characters, mixing up their shapes and personalities. I use colours as a symbol of life and the natural world, whilst the grey scale in my paintings represents cement, death, dust and the material of classical sculptures. I am constantly challenged to find a harmonious balance of the grey scale with my vibrant colour palette.“
